How the YuleLoggers Club Got Started

excerpted from a post to the YuleLog Message Boards by SueInBC

The formation of the club started with Tim Kline asking in the Spring of 99 in a post on the regular board, "Why doesn't Yulelog form a club?" Todd immediately offered to be a sponsor. Lots of people agreed that it was a great idea.

Lora Welch did some research and found a Hallmark store in California to be a co-sponsor. She set up a group in what was then called egroups and invited anyone who wanted to help get the club going, to sign into egroups.

About 25 people volunteered to be on the forming committee. There were lively chats to discuss the particulars of the club and lots of folk offered to be on bylaws, naming, nominating and other useful committees.

These committees worked through June and July of 1999 and at the end of July the nominating committee presented a slate of nominations for club officers and an election was held within the forming committee. Once the officers were in place the club invited applications for membership.

The bylaws committee made the charter club year 16 months long so that there wouldn't need to be elections and membership renewals so soon after the club began.

The forming committee scrapped and argued over a lot of things but the name of the club was pretty easy to decide.

In September 1999, The Yuleloggers had their first meeting. There were 91 members and the officers were Bill Nelson, President; Cathy Metcalf, Vice President, Sue Goddard, Secretary and Carolyn Peaslee, Treasurer.
